Karlien Duvenage (née Smit) is a registered dietitian who qualified from Stellenbosch University. She joined the practice in 2007 where her main responsibilities included private patient consultations. Through the practice she gained extensive sports nutrition experience, and has also been involved in various corporate and wellness programs.
Her work mainly focuses on consulting with individual athletes and teams - both recreational and elite. To date, Karlien has worked with the Women's Protea Cricket team, Kaizer Chiefs, Nashua Cape Cobras, SA canoeing, SA under-16 high-performance rugby team, Cycling SA, SA Paralympic team as well as numerous athletes participating in ultra endurance events such as the Cape Epic and Iron Man.
Karlien often presents workshops to a wide variety of groups, from athletes to corporate companies, students and the general public, and is a regular writer for popular magazines and newspapers such as Women's health and Men’s Health. She also co-authored chapters and books on sports nutrition and supplements.
She is a member of the South African Sports Medicine Association (SASMA).
Karlien is currently completing her MSc Psychology through the University of Roehampton, London Online.
